In Karol Beyer Park, not far from a railway, Kafe Zielony Niedzwiedz (‘Green Bear Café') elegantly displays its tables and chairs under the trees on sunny days. In winter, everything happens inside in an industrial style. Zbyszek Kmiec, a bon vivant, has been discovering the best Polish ingredients available in the last few years and wine that is often from Hungary. He personally knows all the suppliers whose products are on the menu. The result? Food that is remarkable, including the sturgeon.
And at the corner grocery store you can fill your sack with succulent victuals. One imagines Zbyszek Kmiec trying to put Warsaw back on the world food map, as in the days before the war. Since the departure of Sebastian Olma (winner of ‘Top Chef') in March 2016, the former sous chef, Wojciech Deres, has taken over and the results are promising.
