Rue Gourmande, or the ‘Gastrothentic' empire

It is impossible to skip lunch or dinner if you find yourself on 'Gourmand Street', a Bordeaux landmark. You might even end up spending the night there.

In the heart of historical Bordeaux, between the Saint-Michel and Sainte Croix quarters, a talented entrepreneur and gourmet enthusiast has developed several food-based businesses, re-modelling an artery into a temple of regional gastronomy. Little by little, and thanks to the hard work of Jean-Pierre Xiradakis, the Rue Porte de la Monnaie built its reputation as “gourmet street”. As you wander around, you will come across a country-style inn that sheds a light on gastronomic heritage (La Tupina). Close by, its sister restaurant and last-born on the street is La Petite Monnaie, which offers market-based cuisine that varies depending on seasons. Carry on and you will find a bistro and cocktail maker (perfect for pre-dinner) at the foot of the Porte de la Monnaie (Le Taquin). A cellar and wine-bar will give you the opportunity to discover the wonders of the region – to be enjoyed in moderation – (le Bar-Cave de la Monnaie) and you can even stop at a bed and breakfast (Maison Fredon). Everything you need is on this 'concept-street' for indulging in the best of the seven deadly sins.
