Tacun, simplicity and authenticity on a budget

Amid the large Cancun hotel zone, Tacun stands out with very affordable pricing, traditional cooking and a kitsch atmosphere.

Simple is sometimes best. In Cancun, Tacun lives up to the notion. This outdoor restaurant located in the Cancun hotel zone makes no fuss. On the terrace, locals and tourists enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine, from breakfast onward. Traditional tacos, burritos and quesadillas, but also seafood – whole lobster and shrimp – are served in kitsch-looking dinner sets, seemingly taken from a local grandma's buffet. Tacun plays off that rococo side and adds wax cloths, multicoloured chairs, piñatas and bandanas, the latter two hanging from the ceiling. The decoration really stands out in the neighbourhood, but less so than the restaurant's pricing, which even holds all around Cancun! Make sure you carry enough cash though, as the establishment does not take cards.
