Rum tasting at Petibonum

On the Plage du Coin in Carbet, Le Petibonum sheds a light on Martinican heritage by way of the best agricultural rums of the island.

The team behind Babaorum in Fort-de-France keeps on using Latin Roman connotations straight from the Astérix comic book series: Petibonum (“Litl'guy”) is at the crossroads between beach restaurant and rum bar. Located on a private black sandy beach, the Plage du Coin in Carbet – halfway between Saint-Pierre and the Martinican administrative centre – it displays deck chairs either by the water or in the shade under a wooden structure, where you will be able to taste various local rums. Proud of his island, owner Guy Ferdinand, a local figure everyone sees coming in his tight shorts, has access to some of the very best distilleries on the island, including agricultural rums with a protected designation of origin (AOC Martinique). The island was first in line to create such a label for its agricultural rums, starting in the late 1990s! Take your pick among the varied selection, years, Grande Réserve, infused rums and cocktail specials with old rum and sugarcane… all to be enjoyed in moderation. As a token of quality, Petibonum was awarded best Caribbean bar by the Caribbean Journal in 2015, and it set up the first edition of the Martinique Rhum Awards in 2019.
