In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the favourite haunt of artists, Duke Ellington fired up crowds and Samuel Beckett debuted his play Waiting for Godot at the Petit Théâtre de Babylone. Today, 100m from the Église Saint-Sulpic, a Torino-style café elegantly meets a New York-style bar, while onlookers' prying eyes gaze dreamily from Mabillon street. Surprising and innovative, the Marcello café-restaurant is becoming a GHQ for foodies, dreamers and night owls alike. The sun's rays dance on the cobbled terrace and round tables which, at nightfall, are still covered with good food.
At sunrise, an infusion of fresh fruit and Italian croissants awaken you to the sweetness of a Parisian morning. As the hours go by, gourmets nibble between meetings on the fried smelt and "oysters of the poor" and enjoy a few arancini with black truffle chips at the end of the day.
