Anyone born in the area around Bastia knows the outline of this simple, elegant building at the top of Route du Cap Corse, where it stands looking out over the Mediterranean. For almost 50 years, the hotel – formerly Hôtel Thalassa – has been a favourite meeting place for the young people of Bastia: somewhere to catch up and have fun. Then, three friends decided to restore the place to its former glory. Restored, enhanced, and now home to a pool, open-air jacuzzi and rooftop bar with breath-taking views of the Tyrrhenian Sea, it has been renamed the Calavita after the stunning cove it overlooks.
Bringing guests all the comfort of a modern hotel with its 32 fully-equipped rooms, lounge, bar and restaurant, the Thalassa's heart and soul can still be felt today at the Calavita, as can its foundations in sincere Corsican hospitality. It is committed to minimising its environmental impact, as well as its water and energy use. A certified ‘Rispettu' hotel – Corsica's sustainable hospitality label – it makes a conscious effort to be as green as possible, for example by reducing the amount of waste it produces and offering homemade “eco-designed” Corsican lunches featuring organic produce sourced from local suppliers.
