In one of Porto's most touristic neighbourhoods, the University occupies historical buildings. The science department found its home in an old presbytery and now welcomes history and natural science enthusiasts. Four large collections, like geology and zoology, will take curious visitors for a journey across the globe. The palaeontology section in particular remains quite impressive among young and old alike, with fossils and dinosaur bone reproductions. As for the archaeological and anthropological parts, dealing with the development of our societies, they tell of the major scientific missions carried out during the Portuguese colonial Empire. The large collections of African, Asian and Melanesian arts, as well as instruments and tools are all being shed a light on through original study documentation. End the visit at the Campo Alegre Botanical Garden and try its playful sensory experiences that are nothing short of amazing.
